Crested Gecko from New Caledonia

So, we make a trip to see the sloth and 900 pound python at Austin Zookeepers. The whole way their middle son is talking about the turtle or chameleon he has wanted for years. The sloth, Susie, I think is her name was sleeping in ball in the tree of course. They crawl down from their tree only once a day to drink and go do-do. My son gravitates towards the green chameleon. His tail is curled up and he has huge bug eyes, kinda cute, for a reptile. Then suddenly younger son starts gagging, we run to the back, no bathroom, out the back a door is open and he is puking in the alley. Yuck! It wasn't the creatures, but the beginning of a stomach bug.

I'm in a hurry to get out of here now, but oh, not too fast. Somehow I get hoodwinked into a Brown crested gecko from New Caledonia. Low maintenance little guy apparently, will not get to be 6 ft long, stays small. He has suction cup feet and crawls around. So out we go with a terrarium, bark, crickets, tree twigs and a gecko. The nice owner set it all up so I didn't have to. Out walks older son carrying the tank, happy as a clam. I am not touching it I tell him, no way!
On the way home he names him perky, hmmm, o.k. Best of luck Perky in our crazy world (he doesn't know what he is getting into).

Oh, the joys of being a mom of boys! And the wonderful critters we have to take in. I hope the dogs don't eat him, kind of an expensive snack!
